Hospice of Haines is a federally recognized 501(c)(3), licensed by the State of Alaska as an all-volunteer hospice.

Event Description:

This is a fundraising event for Hospice of Haines of Haines, Alaska and for the designated hospice of your choice. Individuals or teams are invited to participate and complete the event in 13 days (September, 2011). This is not a race. There is a $50 entry fee for Hospice of Haines, a federally recognized non-profit organization. It is the responsibility of each entry or team to collect pledges for their chosen hospice. Each individual or team must provide a support vehicle to carry supplies needed en route.

Course Description:

The Golden Circle is a 360-mile road run that begins in the historic Klondike gold rush town of Skagway, Alaska. The first 98 miles follow the Klondike Highway over the White Pass Summit (2865 ft.) from Skagway to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. The second third of the course is 110 miles of the Alaska Highway through the Yukon along a relatively level course to Haines Junction the headquarters of Kluane National Park and Reserve. The last third is 152 miles from Haines Junction, over the Chilkat Pass, (3510 feet elevation), down along the St. Elias Mountain range into the Chilkat Valley and along the Haines Highway National Scenic Byway into Haines.

U.S. and Canada Border Requirements:

• All participants will cross the U.S. and Canada border twice and will be required to go through customs with a passport of their country.
• Please contact US Customs at 907-767-5511 prior to the race if you have any question regarding ID requirements. It is important to note that no fruit or vegetables are allowed into the U.S. from Canada.

Accommodations:

• A support vehicle to carry supplies for participants is mandatory. There are few communities and therefore limited facilities en route. Campsites are plentiful.
• Suggested supplies include food, sleeping gear, first aid kits and foul weather gear.
• A simple map with mileage, town sites and suggested hotels, hostels or campsites will be provided for all participants.
